~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~
I am so thrilled to welcome Joanne Rock to Quick Six!!  Joanne is not only one of my fave authors, she’s such a sweet lady.  The very first workshop I ever presented was with Joanne at an RWA conference a couple years back and she made it so easy and comfortable for a very nervous me *g* Of course, part of my nerves were from being a total fan girl and being so thrilled to not only present with, but be writing for the same line with one of my fave authors. So please join me in giving Joanne a huge welcome –and be sure to answer her Quick Six question to YOU below for a chance to win a copy of her latest Blaze, SLIDING INTO HOME

Alpha, beta or gamma?
Gamma.  I’ll take the man who can make me laugh every time.

Football or basketball?
Gridiron, baby.

Clean or cluttered?
Even the word “cluttered” makes me cringe.

Card games or board games?
Since my husband can beat me at any card game known to man kind, I’ll always takes my chances on a board game.  I like stuff like Trivial Pursuit where winning isn’t based on strategy or luck but ridiculous knowledge.

Plain or peanut?
I’m old school when it comes to M&Ms.  The plain ones line up nicer when you want to make a happy face on your plate with them.

For readers– Red wine or Margaritas?

Three-time RITA nominee Joanne Rock is the author of over forty novels for Harlequin. A romance fan since forever, Joanne liked to tuck medieval historicals in her school backpack to read after completing the day’s lessons and is certain that lots of pleasure reading improved her school skills tremendously. (Just ask her three sons who’ve heard her preach this since birth.) When she’s not writing or chatting with fans, Joanne teaches English at the local university to share her love of the written word in all its forms.

Loved Sliding into Home! I’m a huge baseball fan so this was really an enjoyable read for me.

I love M&Ms, I either go with either plain or peanut butter.

For the question to us it would be neither, I don’t drink.

  2. Roberta Harwell says:

    Hello Joanne,

Thanks for stopping by today. I’ll have to choose a pitcher of Margaritas. However, I prefer a Crown and Coke. Have a great day.

  3. Dianna says:

That would be a Margarita for me please, no salt though, just the liquor…LOL I never did develop a taste for wine.

  4. CrystalGB says:

My choice would be a margarita. Love the cover to Sliding Into Home.

  5. Joanne Rock says:

Thank you for checking out Sliding Into Home, Nicole! I fell for my husband back in his college baseball days, so I think there’s a bit of magic surrounding the sport for me ;-) .

  6. Joanne Rock says:

Also, cheers to Tawny for the Quick Six … what a fun way to chat with readers for a day!

  7. Quilt Lady says:

Hi Joanne, nice to see you here. I have to say I am a Margarita gal myself. Not much into wine!

    1. Joanne Rock says:

I have a brother-in-law who makes a mean pomegranate margarita. It was the 4th of July beverage of choice at the Rock family brouhaha this year. Yum!

      1. Tawny says:

Oooh, my fave little cantina does the best pom margaritas and they are such a treat!! Love them!!! I wish I could find a good recipe (hmm, that might have been a hint LOL)

        1. Joanne Rock says:

Tawny, instead of making a full-blooded pomegranate margarita, I just swap in HALF the regular margarita mixer (I like Jose Cuervo’s best) for a nice quality pomegranate mixer. That way, you keep a bit of the sour kick of a regular margarita while adding the yumminess of pomegranate. It’s a nice proportion.

  8. Jody F. says:

Joanne, so excited you’re here today! And in answer to your question, I’d go with Red Wine. My friend is a wine connoisseur and has been introducing me to some really tasty varieties. Plus, I find it very relaxing to drink.

    1. Joanne Rock says:

Isn’t it fun to know someone who knows a lot about wine? My sister and her husband love to cook and have made more aware of what wines pair well with various things. Plus, I like to serve wine with dinner when my husband is all spun up about something… it’s my secret weapon to mellow him up ;-) .

  9. Fedora says:

Margaritas, but I’m truly partial to the fruity concoctions that are basically smoothies :) BTW, what’s coming up next for you? More historicals? More hot Blazes? Eager readers want to know, Joanne!

    1. Joanne Rock says:

Thank you for asking! I’ve got a Valentine novella in an anthology called MANHUNTING with Betina Krahn and Lori Borill for Blaze this February. Then, I’ve got lots of historicals in the works. In April 2010, I’m doing a Blaze Historical with a Viking hero called THE CAPTIVE. Then, I’ve got a Scots historical for Harlequin Historicals called IN THE LAIRD’S BED in 2010, along with an “Undone.” No firm dates for those yet, but they should have them slotted soon… they’re written and ready to roll! Rounding out the year will be a couple of contemporary Blazes, including another book with a baseball backdrop to follow up Sliding Into Home. I had so much fun with the sports heroes, I had to write another!

Hi, Joanne! I’m a margarita girl myself :-)

Did you find the shorter stories for Sliding Into Home easy to write?

  11. Tawny says:

Joanne – thanks so much for hanging out and chatting today!! I’m a margarita girl for sure. Wine makes me think I should know more than how to get tipsy ;-) which is about the extent of my alcohol skills.

I’m in deep lustful appreciation of your gorgeous cover. I’ll echo Beth’s question on writing the shorter stories. Do you find that more challenging than a full-length story?

    1. Joanne Rock says:

I was really wow-ed by the cover too. It’s so awesome when the artwork really gets across just the right mood/feel of a book… and delivers a sexy man in the process ;-) .

  12. Joanne Rock says:

Beth, this is an interesting question with a convoluted answer :-) . I could not wait to write SLIDING INTO HOME for a lot of reasons, one of which is that I love to write in the short format. One of my favorite parts of storytelling is setting up a sexy meet and the hooks of the opening chapters. Well, true to expectation, I loved getting to write all of the openings to the four stories in the book. But then, I had to write four endings . And endings are great by me too, but they take longer to write and require more writerly muscle for me personally. So, although I thought the book would be fast to write because so much of the overall text involves setting up fun, sexy meets, it actually took longer to write than a regular book because I had to write four meaty, thoughtful, emotional endings. Because what good is a romance that doesn’t give you that bang for the emotional buck??! But yup… tougher than I thought.

That being said, I’d sign on for another Encounters in a heartbeat. I like to read connected pieces like that, and they’re fun to write despite the challenge because all of the stories have thematic connections or shared elements… that really appeals to me.

  13. Jane says:

I’m more of a margarita kind of girl. It would be fun to have a couple of margaritas and play Trivial Pursuit.

    1. Joanne Rock says:

Just think how inventive our answers would be!

  14. Helen says:

Great questions and answers love the sound of the book Joanne
I am with you an any man that can make me laugh
Here in Australia I would go for Rugby League or Cricket
    I love board games
    Love plain M&Ms
    I will go the Margarita

    Have Fun
    Helen

  15. Joanne Rock says:

We saw cricket fields when we went to the Bahamas. They must like it there, too!
