1. Historical or Contemporary?
Both, particularly if they’re amusing.2. Romantic suspense or Romantic comedy?
This must be a trick question. I write romantic suspense but I love to read romantic comedy. Does that make any sense?3. Champagne or beer?
Neither. I’m wine all the way.
A huge round of applause and welcome to our Quick Six guest today, Gail Barrett! Gail’s latest,4. Daytime or nighttime?
Definitely daytime. I’m one of those annoying people who wakes up really early (5am) and can’t stay awake past nine or ten at night.5. Candlelight dinner or dance club?
Candlelight dinner. I much prefer one on one…6. Introvert or Extrovert?
Introvert. Cocktail parties terrify me.My question for the bloggers: Movie theatre or home video/DVD?
Gail Barrett always knew she’d be a writer, but it wasn’t until she read her first Silhouette novel that she realized she wanted to write romance. And after living everywhere from Spain to the Bahamas, raising two children, and teaching high school Spanish for years, she finally fulfilled that lifelong goal. Her writing has won numerous awards, including the Book Buyers Best Award, the National Readers’ Choice Award, and Romance Writers of America’s prestigious Golden Heart. She currently lives in western Maryland with her two sons and her own retired Coast Guard Officer hero. For more information, visit her website, www.gailbarrett.com.

Hi Gail. Great answers. I would have to say both. My husband and I like to go to the movies and to rent dvds.
Hi Gail, I really enjoyed your answers. I am more into the home video or dvd’s. I enjoy the confort of being home when I watch a movie.
Nothing quite compares to sitting in the dark of the movie theatre, settled down into your seat with your tub of buttered popcorn, a large soda and a box of Junior Mints! You sit through the previews, which sometimes seem as long as a movie, and then…finally the opening credits! I have loved “going to the movies” since I was a kid and never missed an Elvis movie! I don’t go to movies as much as I used to–takes something special to get me there now. I really enjoyed the last X-Files movie! The script was uneven, but it did let Mulder and Scully get their groove-thang on! Something told me to stay through all the closing credits, and I was rewarded with the final little bonus treat scene which showed that they were still together! I do collect DVDs of movies that I want to keep and watch again. The best of both worlds : )
Hi, everyone. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Quilt Lady – I’m with you. I love to watch movies in my bathrobe and slippers, which generally means at home (LOL).
Crystal and Virginia – the advantages you both have are the bigger screen/better sound of a theater, and the fact that you can see movies when they first come out. I always wait until months later when they are on DVD, which can be a pain. The only exception is if I’m flying and see a movie on the plane. I saw Slumdog Millionaire that way. By the way, the Jai Ho song from that movie makes an excellent theme song for my book:)))))
Oh, I forgot to say that I collect movies, too, Virginia. Do you have any favorite romantic comedies?
I’ll choose a DVD over the movie theater anytime. It’s more convenient and cheaper to watch movies at home. I check DVDs out of the library or buy them at discount rates. The last time I went to the movies people were talking on their phones while the movie was playing.
I am a huge Romantic Comedy fan too, Gail! My hubby and my mom LOVE to go to the movies while I don’t like them at all!! I am an at home movie girl! Netflix rocks!
I love snuggling up on the couch with my husband to watch a good movie. We like to be comfy and have the kind of snacks and drinks that we like handy. Plus, at home you don’t have the annoying distractions that are prone to movie theaters these days including talking, being blinded by the light of a cell phone in a dark movie theater because someone is texting and/or talking on their phone, kids crying and racing up and down the rows, etc.
We’ll go to the theater at less crowded times if there’s a movie we feel needs to be seen at a theater to enhance the experience. A 3-D or epic movie needs a big screen. However, for us most movies don’t meet that criteria for us so we are happy to view movies in the comfort and privacy of our own home.
Leni – aren’t libraries great? Ours has a wonderful movie selection. I once checked out every single version of Pride and Prejudice they had and watched them back to back. It was great to be able to compare the different versions and decide which one I liked best (the Keira Knightley version because the actors fit how I envision the characters).
Laura – can you recommend any good romantic comedies? My favorites are French Kill, Notting Hill, and Anyone But You (Hugh Jackman!). I’m always looking for more to add to my collection.
Make that French Kiss!!!!
Jill – I totally agree about the comfort factor. One of our sons gave us Netflix for Father’s Day a year ago, and we got hooked. Between Netflix and the library we can always find something to watch. I wish they had more on instant play, though.
Gail, Welcome!!! Thanks so much for visiting today. I love your interview and have to say I’m on the fence. If it’s a big movie – one that definitely needs big screen, like Alice in Wonderland in 3D, or LOTR with its huge sets or Harry Potter with the special effects (or POTC just cuz Johhny’s so cute) I prefer to see it at least the first time at the theater.
But after that, and for almost anything else, I’m a dvd fan! The couch is my friend
The only drawback? When I’m sitting at home in front of a TV I can think of thirty other things I need to be doing instead of relaxing LOL.
Gail, can you tell us a little about your latest book?
Oh, I agree. I definitely can’t get the same effects on my home TV. That’s a definite drawback. Still, the comfort of cuddling up on the couch with a blanket makes up for it. I see a lot more movies now than I used to.
My book… okay, here is the back cover blurb:
Undercover mercenary Deven Kapur couldn’t save his family from the mafia that ruled the Himalayan kingdom of Romanistan. To protect the woman he loved, he abandoned her and infiltrated the evil organization. His priority was revenge — until Maya walked back into his life.
Maya Chaudry, aka the Leopard, rescues victims of human trafficking. Nothing will ruin her mission. Not Deven. Not the renewed passion between them. Not the danger that forces them to work together. But as they rush to solve the mystery of an ancient artifact, a secret is revealed that could tear them apart — forever.
So…this story is basically a race through the Himalayas. Maya has to discover the secret of the medallion she has worn since birth. Deven has to protect her…and keep her from discovering the sinister past that drove them apart.
Definitely home video. I don’t watch ANY tv shows “live”. I tape everything so I can fast-forward through what I consider boring parts and commercials, of course. I rarely watch movies (because I’m five months behind on my tv shows alone). The last movie I saw in a theatre was in 2002 (Red Green’s Duct Tape Forever). Pretty sad, I know….
Laney – I love to tape shows so I can fast forward through commercials. I try to do that with the Olympics. It saves a TON of time! We don’t have Tivo yet, but that will probably be next.
Home! I’m not much of a movie watcher, so unless it’s a spectacular blockbuster that really needs to be seen big-screen, I prefer watching at home where I can pause, or fast forward, or whatever!
Great to see you, Gail–and we can huddle together at that cocktail party with the snacks and wine
Hi, Fedora! Yes, I’m definitely a huddler. I just can’t mingle to save my life:(. Every time I try I feel so fake. I just never got the hang of chit-chat.
Prize time! Jill, you’re my winner! If you’d like to email me your address (gail@gailbarrett.com) I’ll send you a book.
Thanks so much, everyone, for stopping by. I had fun:)))))
Yeah Jill!
On the Rom Com front, love the Wedding Planner, Picture Perfect, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Monster in Law. All very good!
