Quick Six with Liz Talley

I am so excited to have Liz Talley here on Quick Six! Not only are we celebrating her debut book, VEGAS TWO STEP, but I can’t wait for her to share her story of how this story started :-D Now – the only Harlequin line I adore more than Blaze is SuperRomance, and Liz’s story has some hot Blaze elements that make it extra fun as a Supers! So check out her Quick Six interview, hang out and chang with her in the comments and be sure to answer her question to you below. Liz is offering not only her debut book, VEGAS TWO STEP, but also a Starbucks gift card for $10.00

Ball cap or Stetson?
Ball cap. I know. I have a cowboy on the front of my cover, but I love a guy in a baseball cap, all sweaty and tan with no shirt. Just a personal fantasy, I meant, preference.

Home Made or Store Bought?
Home made. Guess it depends on what it is, but I was thinking of food. I’m always thinking of food. Home made trumps just about every time. Except for cake mixes. I do prefer boxed cake mixes.

Dogs or Cats?
Dogs. I like most animals, but dogs have laughing eyes and never seem to get mad at you. Unlike my cats…who do get mad at me and sometimes plot revenge.

Romantic suspense or Romantic comedy?
Romantic comedy. I love to laugh and I love to fall in love. Explains it all. Besides those are the best movies no matter what the critics say.

Wall-E or Finding Nemo?
Finding Nemo. Fish are friends, not food.

Black or White?
Black. Makes you look slimmer and hotter. Though a breezy white is nice. I like monocromatic outfits, so when I wear white I often wear all white like the guy from Fantasy Island.

My question: Big, fancy wedding or Vegas?

From the time she learned to read to the present, Liz Talley has always had a fascination with books. As a child she remembers reading Little Golden Books instead of napping. And, oh, the first time she read a romance – The Thornbirds – she was hooked. She ate up the SuperRomances on the shelves of her aunt’s used bookstore, borrowed her grandmother’s medical romances (loved those nurses’ caps) and snuck her dad’s westerns so she could read the “romantic parts” (which lasted about a page). She inhales books, no doubt about it.

Of course, it never occurred to her to write a book until her college roommate said, “You read so many of those things, why don’t you write one?” The idea stuck and several years ago she found venturing into writing way more exciting than scrubbing hardened cereal off the loveseat. Underneath her baby food-stained clothes, a dream stirred. Liz followed that dream and after a foray into historical romance and a Golden Heart final, she started her contemporary romance on the same day she met her editor. Coincidence? She prefers to call it fate.

Currently Liz lives in North Louisiana with her high school sweetheart, two beautiful children and a menagerie of animals. Liz serves as the president of her local RWA chapter and Vice-president of the Golden Network. She loves strawberries, fishing, retail therapy, and is always game for a spa day. When not writing contemporary romances for Harlequin Superromance, she can be found working in the flowerbed, doing laundry or driving carpool.

Hi Liz. Your book sounds great. I love the cover. I can see the advantages of both. For the memories of the occasion,I would say big fancy wedding. For the less stress and hassle, I would say Vegas.

  2. runner10 says:

    Congrats on the debut, Liz!!
I would take a Vegas wedding, but prefer the beach. Less stress than a big wedding.
    Your cover is fantastic.

  3. Leni says:

Vegas or anywhere else because I do not want a big wedding. Keeping things simple helps to have a more stress free zone. Looking forward to reading your book.

  4. cheryl c. says:

Not Vegas. It just seems too tacky for me.

Hi, Liz! What fun to find you here on Tawny’s blog! Loved your Quick Six :-)

Congrats on your debut SuperRomance! I can’t wait to read it *g* How did you celebrate your first sale?

As for wedding, I did the big wedding thing but if I had to do it over, I’d have a small ceremony on the beach – and spend all that extra money I saved on a fabulous honeymoon!

  6. Buffie says:

Hey Tawny and Liz!! VEGAS TWO STEP sounds just lovely. I too love to laugh and fall in love :-) I see that you are married to your highschool sweetheart. So am I. We had a big fancy wedding, even though my Dad offered us money to elope. LOL!

  7. Buffie says:

Oops, I guess I didn’t answer your question.

I would still pick a big wedding. The memories of my family (and his) dancing and laughing is very precious to me.

  8. LauraCann says:

Yeah Liz!! Congrats on the new book! I loved your answers!! I totally agree with you on the baseball cap, I personally love them worn backwards,on the right guy of course!! :)

I am a big fancy wedding girl. A big huge party with tons of friends and family, having a big celebration.

  9. Fedora says:

Congrats on your debut, Liz! Having had the relatively big, relatively fancy wedding, I’d opt for Vegas! Much less hassle, and you can get to honeymooning right away ;)

  10. Jane says:

    Hi Liz,
Congrats on your debut release, Liz. I would choose a Vegas wedding. Less drama and less money to spend is the way to go.

  11. Jill says:

Hi Liz! I just picked up your book this week (so no need to enter me into the contest). I look forward to reading it. As for your question, we got married on the beach surrounded by our closest friends and family. I got to be barefoot at my wedding and did not have to wear any uncomfortable shoes! lol The whole event was just relaxed and fun. It was definitely a good compromise between a big wedding and an intimate Vegas wedding.

  12. Laney4 says:

If they are the only two choices, I’d have to say big, fancy just so that my friends and family could share our time together, but I really prefer a smaller, more intimate gathering instead.

Now that I have been happily married for almost 29 years, I’d say that if I had been widowed and found another special man to share my life with, and he’d already had that big wedding, if he was okay with it, Vegas (or the registrar’s office) would be fine with me instead.

  13. Colleen says:

    COngrats on your debut novel!
I would not want a Vegas wedding, but I do not go for big and fancy either… I choose C) small with family and my choice of locale! ;)

  14. Kirsten says:

I go for a big wedding, but not too fancy. Cause I would like to share and party with all the people that I love. Having them round on my special day is what makes the decision for me. And afterworths I take my new hubby on a quick honeymoon to Vegas. That way I get the best of both worlds. :)

  15. Nicole S says:

great quick six! I wouldn’t have been able choose between Wall-E and Nemo. I loved them both.

I wouldn’t want a big wedding or one in Vegas. A nice small wedding in a garden is my dream wedding.

  16. Chelsea B. says:

Um. I think I would want middle ground. Not big, but not so small as a Vegas wedding :-)

  17. Liz Talley says:

Gravy, I’ve been so deep under in revision mode that I (and I’m not kidding here) forgot what day it was. I just folded the covers back on the bed, looked at the clock and thought “Holy Heck. It’s the 28th?” Yeah, revisions have been that hard this time. Thanks all, for your warm comments and thanks to Tawny for letting me come by (albeit late).

As for weddings, I had a moderate-sized one, but if I were doing it again, I’d have to say I’d prefer the beach and simplicity. All the hoopla overshadowed my vows. In hindsight, I’d rather have focused more on them and what they truly mean.

And if you think it’s bad I didn’t remember the date here…I sent out shower invitations with the wrong date on them too. I really must put calendars everywhere. Thanks everyone. I enjoyed your answers :)

    Liz

  18. Liz Talley says:

Okay, sorry it’s a bit late. But the kiddo chose number six as the winner. So, Buffie, you are the winner :)

Tawny, let me know how you want me to gather the info on Buffie to send her the prize.

    Glad you won, Buffie!

  19. Liz Talley says:

Oh, and I almost forgot…Yes, Tawny is partially responsible for my book. I know. Amazing. But I got the idea for Vegas Two Step during her workshop at RWA Nationals in Dallas 2007. It was my first conference and I attended the workshop because Joanne Rock was a former chaptermate. I had no clue Brenda Chin had a thing where she took one line pitches. Well, I didn’t have anything BLAZEY because at that time I wrote historicals. But I couldn’t let opportunity pass me by. I scribbled an idea about a librarian in knee-highs getting made fun of, so she goes to Vegas, gets a makeover and looks for love. Brenda didn’t call me which is just as well since I hadn’t written it. But, the idea just niggled at me. I started writing the first chapter at Nationals that very night. Tawny was on the panel and I remember how vibrant she was (and I think she was fairly new to Blaze then). So anyway, she played a small part in this whole book coming about. Thanks again, Tawny :)
