Quick Six with Jillian Burns

And the winner is:  Desere Steenberg!

Desere, if you’ll email Jillian with your shipping info, she’ll send you your prize :-)   thanks, everyone, for hanging out!!!

Woot!  Jillian Burns is here!  What a great way to kick off the weekend, since Jillian is a whole lot of fun!   Not only do we have an exciting Quick Six, but Jillian is offering a signed copy of either PRIMAL CALLING or SEDUCE AND RESCUE, winners choice.  All you have to do is check out her interview, then answer her question to you!!

Brains or Brawns? Hmm, I have to say brains. Course, I’m married to a computer geek, so…there ya go. And there is something to be said for Brawn. Check out THIS guy

His name is Sam Bond and he’s on a British TV show called Gladiator. Recently he’s also become a Romance novel cover model –see pictures of his covers here http://www.sam-bond.com/#/gallery/4534019183

Oh, dear, where was I? Oh yes, telling you I preferred brains? Um…yes, right. I mean, at the end of the day, looks fade, muscle weakens and then who are you going to talk to? I guess it’s like, Hasslehoff or Jon Stewart? Stewart makes me laugh, he makes me think about the things going on in this world. He stimulates my mind… And you know what they say the largest sex organ is, right?

Country or Rock N Roll? Country! Y’all see the Grammy’s last week? Lady A cleaned up at that awards show. I love love love me some Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley, and can ya’ll say AUSSI from heaven? Keith Urban is so sexy he snagged himself Nicole Kidman! Plus his music is SO romantic, I use at least one of his songs every time I make a soundtrack for my books. For my new release Primal Calling, (March 1) my hero is an Alaskan bush pilot and my heroine is a 5-star hotel Travel channel host. They’re definitely oil and water, but they were meant for each other and that’s why this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmuqORloBJw ONLY YOU CAN LOVE ME THIS WAY was their song.

Teacher or Doctor? Teacher. If we didn’t have teachers, how would doctors learn to BE doctors? I may be a bit prejudiced in that I have 3 healthy kids, and so, haven’t had as much occasion to need a doctor for anything life threatening. But I do have a child with ADHD, and if it weren’t for the patience, caring, and activism of my child’s teachers, my experience with this disorder might have been MUCH more frustrating and terrifying. Plus, doctors make big bucks. Teachers don’t. We need to pay our teachers better considering they have such an important role in the lives of the future generations. In my July release, Secret Encounter (Blaze anthology, By Invitation Only) my heroine is a college professor for whom knowledge is very important.

Save or Be Saved? Absolutely SAVE. I’ve been told I might have a slightly tiny Savior complex. I don’t like to ask others for help, but I’m constantly trying to do things for other people, even when they might rather I didn’t. In my older years, I am learning to be better about that, but…it’s a pretty hard habit to break. The heroine in my September Blaze, Night Maneuvers, is very similar. As a career Air Force fighter pilot, she equates femininity with weakness, and therefore has a hard time showing her softer side. And don’t you dare save her. She can save herself, thank you very much.

Ghosts or Zombies? Ghosts. Over the summer, I usually try to rent and watch some TV show I never had time to watch from years ago when my kids were little. Last summer was Ghost Whisperer. Love that show, even though I don’t believe in ghosts, I do believe in angels. In a spirit that can stay with us in our hearts and sometimes guide us if we listen very intently and want to be guided. Zombies? Nah, my culinary sensibilities would be disgusted by brains, brains, and nothing but Brains!

Card Games or Board Games? Ooh, I LOVE both! As a kid our family played all kinds of card and board games. And every Christmas we’d get a new one and spend Christmas Day playing it. I play everything! LIFE, Monopoly, Masterpiece, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit, and Sorry. And in cards we play Bridge, Canasta, Nut, Hate Your Neighbor, Spoons, Spite and Malice, and I Doubt It

My Either/ Or Question is: Whale Watching or Dolphin Encounter?

In my March Blaze, Primal Calling, my bush pilot flies out of his way to show my heroine the Blue whales traveling north to feed off the coast of Alaska. I’ve never seen whales in real life, but I imagine it must be a spectacular sight. My mom had a dolphin encounter excursion on her Bahamian cruise and loved it. Me? I kind of feel like the dolphins should be left in the wild. But I can understand how cool it would be to swim with one and get to pet it.

Hi Tawny and Jillian! I can’t wait to read Primal Calling! It looks so good and the cover is amazing! As for my answer to your question, that’s a hard one. I guess I would have to say if the whales were Orcas, then it would be whale watching. If not then I would go with the dolphin encounter. Orcas and dolphins are my favorite animals, so like I said hard one.

Hope you both have a wonderful weekend!!!

    1. Hi Alina!
I’ve been in a deadline cave for so long, it’s nice to talk with humans again. I totally understand loving both whales and dolphins. They are both such magnificent creatures. Thank you for coming by here to say hi! Hope you’re doing well,
      Hugs!

  2. CrystalGB says:

Hi Tawny and Jillian. Love the cover to Primal Calling. I would say dolphin encounter. They are so cute.

    1. Hi Crystal,
Cute and intelligent! I’ve heard they may be as smart as humans –maybe more! And so beautiful! I’ve seen them swimming in the wild once when we were on vacation in Galveston. There had to be at least a dozen in this pod, their fins rising above the water and disappearing again. Wow, that was a cool sight to see!

  3. Laney4 says:

Dolphin encounter. We used to go to Marineland in Niagara Falls (Ontario) with the kids and enjoy watching them (in captivity), so having an encounter would be much “cooler”!

    1. HI Laney,
Wow, I never thought of Canada –and especially Niagara Falls having dolphins. Living way down here in Texas, I tend to think of seeing dolphins at Sea World in San Antonio, or–as I mentioned earlier, out in the Gulf of Mexico. Very cool. Ok, this is going to come out of left field, but speaking of Niagara Falls, did you ever watch a quirky little TV show called WONDERFALLS? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361256/ It’s was slightly weird, but surprisingly endearing.

  4. Cynthia MN says:

Whale watching! I find they are some of the most intelligent and gracious creatures on earth. I’ve noticed Sam has been appearing on more covers lately. Too many muscles for me. And I’ll take country music any day. The jeans are tighter. *tee hee*

    1. Hi Cynthia,
I thought that about Sam, too. Too many muscles. But then I watched a few of those videos where he talks and his accent and his eyes and his…cuteness won me over. He seems really sweet. And Whale watching is on my bucket list, too!

  5. Colleen says:

I would love a Dolphin encounter… they are so cute and I would love to see and touch one up close!
Enjoyed reading your quick six answers… thanks for sharing! :D

    1. Hi Colleen,
My mom has her picture with the dolphin as her FB pic, so I know its a fave memory of hers. I can’t imagine how spectacular they are up close. Thank you for being here today. I LOVE Tawny’s blog and I love answering the Quick Six, and reading others’ answers.

  6. Beth Andrews says:

Hi, Jillian and Tawny! Congrats on your latest release, Jillian – and that cover is amazingly hot *g* Sounds like a fabulous read!

I’ll go with whale watching. Like you, I’d rather leave the dolphins in the wild
    :-)

    1. Hi Beth,
Thank you! I DO love this cover! And I’m really proud of this book. My editor said it was “well-plotted” and I as I was writing the ending, it kind of felt magical to me. I learned a lot about the Inuit people while researching this book and their culture and beliefs kind of sank in and became a part of me.

  7. Desere Steenberg says:

Hi Jullian and Tawny Primal Calling looks so incredible and that cover WOW ! As for your question my answer is actually both I adore all animals and all creatures great and small , so either one would rock my world ! I know that is not really in the spirit of the contest giveaway but I am too much of a softie for animals to pick just one !
Great post and a stunning interview and a amazing contest !

    All the best
    Desere

    1. Hi Desere!
Wow, Thank you! You know the last time I was privileged to be a guest blogger with Tawny, I answered 6 different questions and most of my answers ended up being, BOTH! I couldn’t choose. So, I know exactly how you feel!

      1. Desere Steenberg says:

Thank you for understanding I thought it was just me always having a hard time picking one ,once again thanks this is a stunning post and a stunning contest !

  8. Pamela Stone says:

    Hi Jillian,

Love your cover. Love Lady A and Keith Urban also, BTW.

I’d have to go with Dolphin Encounter. I’ve been whale watching twice so Dolphins appeal more at the moment.

And as one of Jillian’s CPs, I have to vouch for Primal Calling. It’s not just the cover that’s hot! Best of luck!

  9. Kim Campbell says:

Hey Julia and Tawny- Julia, LOVE the new cover! Hot! I would have to vote for Dolphin encounter. Sounds super sexy. Hope we see you at meeting.

    Kim

  10. Rhonda Holcomb says:

    Hi! Jillian and Tawny,
I can’t wait to read your new book, Primal Calling. You know I am married to a computer geek as well. I would vote for whale watching.
    Rhonda

  11. chey says:

    Hi Jillian,
    I enjoyed your quick six!
    I’d go whale watching.

  12. infinitieh says:

I’ve been on a whale watching trip, including seeing my friends covered in whale snot (don’t look down the blowhole!). I’ve haven’t had a dolphin encounter though. But wouldn’t I have to be in the water for that?

In my family, it’s best never to play Monopoly as it always ended up in a screaming fight among the kids (although it was pretty funny to see my frustrated and screaming 4-year-old nephew hitting everything and everyone with the cover of the board game – hey, I TOLD them it wouldn’t end well).

  13. Mariee says:

    Hey Jillian and Tawny!
I’d definitively go for the dolphin encounter. Dolphins always look so beautiful and peaceful, I’d think it would be a great experience.

  14. Leni says:

Whale watching from quite a distance. Don’t want to encounter any dolphins up close either.

  15. Joder says:

I agree with you about Keith. He’s got so many qualities I adore. The perpetual scruff, the tats, and that bit of bad boyness….man, Nicole’s a lucky gal! As to your question, I’ll choose dolphin encounter. I’ve heard they’re relaxing and used in water therapy. Since I’m a quadriplegic I’ve always thought they might be helpful to me.

  16. Fedora says:

Ooh, I’ve done the whale watching, so I’d go for the dolphin encounter! It would be pretty amazing to have the chance to be up close and personal! :) And wow, Primal Calling has a great cover!!

  17. Ilona F says:

Great cover on Primal Calling and great answers to the quick six (I love Country too). Whale Watching or Dolphin encounter? Can’t I have both? Oh fine! I’ll take dolphin encounter then :D

  18. Linda Henderson says:

Well I’m going to go with whale watching, I like whales. Very hot cover on Primal Calling, I’d love to read it.

  19. Helen says:

Jillian love the answers and the cover of your new book. I find this question hard to answer I love both whales and dolphins we have lots of these types of boat trips to watch them here in Australia and can I say I totally agree with you on Keith Urban.
    Have Fun
    Helen

  20. Hey everyone,
Thank you so much for coming by today to say hi, I tried to get back to reply several times and am having trouble with my internet service right now.
