Quick Six with Barbara White Daille
YAY and Welcome to the Quick Six, Barbara White Daille!!! I’m so happy to have her visit, and to share with you this gorgeous new book. Talk about a yummy cover
Sam Robertson’s life just changed. In one short day, he found out that he’s a daddy; that his beautiful little girl, Becky, is deaf; and that her aunt, sign language teacher Kayla Ward, intends to fight him for custody.
There are plenty of reasons Sam shouldn’t fall for Kayla. A city girl like her has no place on his ranch, particularly when she’s his ex-wife’s gorgeous sister. But thanks to the judge’s orders, Sam’s spending a lot of time with Kayla, trying to give Becky the stable home she’s never known.
Despite their ongoing custody battle, Sam and Kayla’s love for Becky brings them closer than they ever expected, and Sam knows that no matter who wins in court, he could still lose—Kayla or his daughter.
Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, or Goofy?
Mickey is a great guy, but he gets all the attention. Donald just never did anything for me. LOLI vote for the underdog! (No pun intended.) As Goofy himself would say: “Gawrsh!” No contest with this one. He’s just so darned cute. And who can resist that “ah-hyuck!” chuckle?
Wine or beer?
Umm…so sorry, but I’m going to wimp out on this one. If I had to choose, I’d go for wine—but really, my drink of choice is hot chocolate.See next question for my justification!
Vanilla or chocolate?
Hands down, flat out, no question about it. Has. To. Be. Chocolate.I’d even written a blog post at my website not long ago that poses the idea that chocolate could solve any problem. A slight exaggeration, maybe… LOL But I do know a good helping of chocolate can make the problem-solving process easier.
Short hair or long hair?
Short hair, every time:Military cut.
Men in pressed khaki with polished brass buttons and spit-shined shoes.
Heroes in uniform.
Enough said?

Introvert or Extrovert?
Introvert, unfortunately. I’m fine one-on-one and in small groups, but the bigger the crowd, the more shy I become. If you ever see me sitting alone at a conference or workshop, it’s not because I’m ignoring you, it’s because that pesky introversion has me in its grip.
If you’re an introvert, also, feel free to take a seat. I’m sure we’ll have a good conversation. If you’re an extrovert, come join me, and we’ll get along just fine, too.
Daytime or nighttime?
Nighttime. I’d much rather stay up reading or writing until two or three in the morning, then sleep in the next day.Getting up early is so not for me—although believe it or not, I once worked a job that required me to set my alarm for four a.m. I managed it, but…
Let’s just say my snooze button got a real workout! LOL
My question to you: hero or heroine? Which do you like to read about most in a novel, and why?
Originally from the East Coast, award-winning author Barbara White Daille now lives with her husband in the
warm, sunny Southwest, where they love the dry heat and have taken up square dancing.
From the time she was a toddler, Barbara found herself fascinated by those things her mom called “books.” Once she learned the words between the covers held the magic of storytelling, she wanted to see her words in print so she could weave that spell for others.
Barbara hopes you will enjoy reading her stories and will find your own storytelling magic in them!
Her newest title from Harlequin American Romance, A RANCHER’S PRIDE, is being released just this week and has received a 4-1/2 star Top Pick review rating from RT Book Reviews.

Good morning!
Hi, Tawny, and thanks for the opportunity to visit with you and the readers here today.
I’ll be in and out to check messages today and look forward to seeing responses to my question!
Barbara
Oh, and P.S. – yeah, Sam is pretty yummy, isn’t he?
Barbara
I’ve know Barbara for a few years now, but I never knew she was a Goofy fan! LOL I always enjoy these brief interviews. And Sam is truly wonderful hero, I think because no matter what, he wants to do right by his little girl. What female can resist a daddy like that?
Oh, yes, Amy, I have hidden depths! LOL
Thanks so much for your comments about Sam. He really is one of my more tortured heroes, and trust me, I suffered almost as much as he did.
Barbara
Cute interview, you two. A Rancher’s Pride sounds like my kind of book, Barbara. Having read one of your stories, I know how you pull out all the emotions and grab your readers from the get-go. As for Tawney’s question – I am a big fan of third person POV just so I can get a look into both of their heads. I love quirky, vulnerable heroines who can play hardball when necessary and heroes who wash dishes and cook on occasion. I know I will love Barbara’s new characters. It sounds like the perfect read for my girl trip coming up.
Hi Barbara, major congrats on your wonderful success! I’m following your blog tour as you go. You’re such an inspiration! Oh and I have to agree – Has. To. Be. Chocolate
But I’ll take mine with a glass of wine AND a Hero in uniform. swoon.
Liz – thanks a bunch! I’m glad you liked the previous story.
I’ve always loved reading emotional stories but never thought I would write them myself. But then one day, I thought–why not! To tell the truth, I cried more than once while writing A RANCHER’S PRIDE.
Barbara
Dale – I’m honored to have a follower. Thank you!
And oh yeah, do you have a point with that triple combo!
Barbara
Barbara, my husband is a Goofy fan, too. You’d get along with him. As for me, I’m a chocolate fan.
Tammy, good question. Except right now I have chocolate on my mind instead of heroes or heroines. Must focus.
I like great heroes and great heroines. I can’t make a choice. I want it all. With chocolate.
I enjoy the journey both the hero and heroine take in a book… getting to know each character and see what choices they make…
Loved your Quick Six answers! Thanks for sharing!
Colleen – thanks so much for stopping by! I’m glad you liked the post.
That’s one of the best things about reading a book, IMHO–finding out what the characters will do. And what they won’t do.
Barbara
Hi Barbara! Great interview. I’m a firm believer in the power of chocolate
Maryanne – I missed your post! So sorry. I’m not used to the comment-following-comment setup.
Thanks for the kind words–and chocolate rules!
Barbara
Edie – sounds like we’d all get along just fine.
I agree, it’s hard to choose between heroes and heroines.
Barbara
Chocolate addicts unite!
Having read this book (and writing a review for Sunday), I can honestly say it’s excellent.
Cyndi – hear, hear!
And I can’t wait to hear what you have to say on Sunday. I may have to indulge in chocolate so I can last till then. LOL
Barbara
Barbara
Oh (groan) I just saw that. It that was NOT a deliberate pun on the word!
Barbara
Barbara,
The story sounds gripping. I love the heroes. I enjoy reading from the heroine’s point of view, but it’s the guy I really care about.
From the questions you answered today I feel most strongly about Night-time. Reading and writing at night just feels great.
Thanks, Mary! All my heroes are betas, though some come with a dash of alpha, too.
Barbara
And yes, a man who loves kids makes a great hero!
Barbara
Good after noon, Barbara and Tawny. Interesting question, Tawny and VERY interesting answers, Barbara! I love by beta heroes who can be strong when people are in danger. I love all the Disney characters.
And I love a man who loves kids!
My favorite is usually which ever one is the main character. Though, sometimes the other character will stand out because of their contrast to the other lead. It really depends on the story.
Laura – we must be kindred spirits! Reading and writing in the middle of the night is both relaxing and stimulating to me. Doesn’t make a lot of sense, does it? But that’s how it is.
I’m glad you liked the sound of A RANCHER’S PRIDE. And if you take a look at it, I hope you like it.
Barbara
Leni – I know what you mean about depending on the book. Some stories are “owned” by one character more than another.
Barbara
Hi, Barbara – I understand about being an introvert. Many of us are. But hot chocolate fixes lots of things! Good luck with A RANCHER’S PRIDE.
Hi, Grace – yes, there are many of us out there; at least I’m not alone.
Thanks for stopping by and for sending along good-luck wishes!
Barbara
Barbara
This book sounds really good
Loved the questions and answers and you gotta love a good strong hero who is honourable but he always needs a great heroine LOL
Have Fun
Helen
Hi, Helen – thanks a bunch! Glad you enjoyed the Q&A. I definitely agree about evenly matched heroes and heroines. Thanks for stopping by.
Barbara
I love both the hero and heroiens storys, it takes both to make a good story. I am with you on staying up half the night reading and sleeping in the next morning. I do that a lot. Your book sound fabulous and I will have to start looking for it. Thanks for sharing.
Good morning, Quilt Lady, obviously, neither of us followed our instincts to sleep in today! LOL
Thanks so much for the kind words about A RANCHER’S PRIDE. If you do pick up the book, I hope you enjoy it.
