Ahh, Romance: A Carnival Date

Come with me while I take a trip down memory lane.

Let’s harken back to my high school days.  Big hair (man I miss big hair), fashion that’s a cross between Valley Girl and Flashdance (man, I miss lacy socks with pumps and ripped sweatshirts), and raunchy hair bands.  Back then, Great America was too expensive for most high school students but carnivals were abundant during the summer.  One of my favorite date ventures was an evening at the carnival.  I had three criteria for a good carnival date.  That the guy be willing to ride all the rides with me.  That the guy not puke after riding all the rides with me. And that he win me a cute stuffed animal.

As I got older, my dating criteria changed (although there are benefits to keeping the ‘no puking’ rule) and carnivals seemed to disappear.

Then last week, we saw a carnival ride into town.  The excitement was seriously wild, with family members calling family members, friends texting, Facebook aflutter with everyone sharing the thrill and making arrangements to meet up.  It was fabulous – kids, rides, games and snow cones.  My husband rode the rides with me.  He didn’t puke. And, yes, he won me a darling stuffed animal throwing darts at balloons.  Woot- he’s still a perfect date :-)   Now that’s romance!!

Ahhh, nostalgia. The good  ole days. Way back when… and all that jazz :-)

So what do you think? Are you a fan of carinivals and when’s the last time you were at one? And more importantly… what do you think I should name my dragon?

Carnivals are fun! All of the games and rides… For me I believe it was 2 years ago that I went to the state fair… love dragons, he is a cutie! Hmmm… names, Limeade, sapphire, snowcone, spitfire, jolly??? Whatever name you come up with will be perfect!

Love the name ideas, Colleen :-) I’m going to let my daughter pick from all the suggestions – as soon as I get her to stop hinting with big puppy dog eyes that she’d sure like that dragon for her very own. The games and rides are so fun. And the smell of the corn dogs. I don’t eat them (no vegetarian version at the carni -bummer) but I do love that scent!!

Funnel cake! I do try to attend the county fair at least every other year. I try to pick a day during which they are judging foods I want to eat (because the audience gets the leftover samples – yum!).
