Quick Six with Kate Carlisle
I’m so jazzed to welcome the amazingly talented, New York Times Bestselling author and sassy Romance Bandit, Kate Carlisle to the Quick Six
Woot and welcome, Kate!! Kate’s latest Harlequin
Desire, HOW TO SEDUCE A BILLIONAIRE is out now – and you need to check it out!!
The first step…mix business with pleasure
New hairdo? Make-up? A dress? Where did his efficient secretary go? Because the woman in front of Brandon Duke is not the Kelly Meredith who left on vacation two weeks ago. He is shocked—and curiously enchanted—by her transformation.
She says this makeover is all part of her plan…to become more seductive. And this billionaire is just the man to give his suddenly sultry assistant a few lessons in love. He’ll go slow, savor every moment and then say good-bye—as long as he can remember just who is seducing who!
Car or plane? This is a tough one because I used to love to fly everywhere, but now it’s just a gigantic hassle. So I guess I’ll choose Car. Of course, growing up in the Los Angeles area, I’m physically attached to my car, so road trips are always fun. On the other hand, if you want to go to Paris, you’ve got to take a plane. Unless … anybody up for an ocean cruise?
Scary movies or romantic comedies? I don’t watch scary movies for the same reason I don’t go on scary amusement park rides or walk down dark alleys. That’s not the kind of adrenaline rush I need. No, I experience plenty of terror and thrills just trying to meet my book deadlines. So for me, it’s definitely romantic comedies. But I’m picky. I confess I haven’t seen a really great romantic comedy in a few years, although I have seen a number of clunkers. Can anyone recommend some great new romantic comedies to me?
Chinese, Italian, Mexican or fast food? Mexican food! And margaritas! Olé!
City or country? I’m a city girl. The best kind of vacation for me is to visit a big city with lots of great restaurants and museums and architecture and shopping and new adventures around every corner.Teacher or Doctor? A doctor, absolutely. I have great respect for teachers, but I’ve always known I would be terrible at that job! All those young minds looking to be molded? Don’t look at me! And here’s a little secret: when I was in college, I wanted to be a pathologist or a medical examiner. I thought the idea of solving medical mysteries and diagnosing diseases sounded terribly exciting. And as a pathologist, I could stay in the lab and wouldn’t have to deal face-to-face with the patients. I was very shy back in college. LOL
Hoover Dam or Beaver Dam? Snork! Beaver Dam, naturally. Um, because I’m a nature girl and I love the great outdoors, of course!
*******
And my question to you all is: Dogs or Cats?I’m giving away a signed copy of THE MILLIONAIRE MEETS HIS MATCH and SWEET SURRENDER, BABY SURPRISE, the first two books in the Duke Brothers Trilogy to one random commenter. I’ll announce the winner right here this Sunday!
Kate Carlisle is the New York Times bestselling author of the Bibliophile Mystery series, featuring rare book expert Brooklyn Wainwright, whose bookbinding and restoration skills invariably uncover old secrets, treachery and murder. Kate also writes romance for Harlequin Desire and the third book in her Duke Brothers trilogy, How to Seduce a Billionaire, is available now! HEY!!! It’s Kate Carlisle! WOOT! Can’t wait to have HT Seduce a Billionaire in my hot little handses. Looked for it the other night but they hadn’t switched out the rack yet. Grins. Had to LOL about the Doctor/Teacher answer. There is not enough money printed to get me to teach kids under college age. Not. Enough. Money. Printed. Eeek. And Beaver Dam? SNORK!!! Tawny! Hahaha! Looking forward to this book, Kate, and to the next Brooklyn Wainright book too. It’s out in Jan, or is it Feb 2012?
Hey, Jeanne!! Your comment snuck in here when I wasn’t looking! Oh, I’m so glad you said that about being a teacher. I used to watch The Actors Studio and whenever he asked anyone what profession they would be in if they weren’t acting and they always seemed to say “teacher.” And I thought, that’s so not my answer! LOL
Anyway…I hope you love Brandon’s story! I really loved writing about the Duke Brothers. I loved them so much that I gave them twin cousins. Hehehe
The next Brooklyn book is actually an e-novella, out in January 2012. The next full-length paperback is out in February. It’s ONE BOOK IN THE GRAVE.
P.S., thank you so much for asking.
Hi Kate. Your book sounds great. Beautiful cover. I am a cat person. I have two
Bengal cats named Max and Harley.
Hi Crystal, thanks so much for coming by to say hello today. I love the names of your cats! They sound like perfect romance couple names.
Dog! I’m a dog lover! But I do like cats too.
I love the makeover premise in HOW TO SEDUCE A BILLIONAIRE. I can’t wait to read the book!
Hi Jen! I know you’re a dog lover, especially a Bailey Dog lover! Thanks for coming by. I hope you love Brandon and Kelly’s story.
Um… neither?
Probably dogs, mainly because I’m allergic to cats!
Oh, and I agree with Jen–I love a story where a woman changes a few things and gets the guy in her life to sit up and pay attention
Hi Fedora! Thanks so much for coming by to say hello today! My DH is allergic, too, so we’re looking for a dog that won’t make him sneeze too badly. I would love a cat, too, but … same problem.
I loved writing about Kelly’s makeover! Of course, the twist is that she wasn’t doing it for our hero but for someone else–and for reasons only known to her. Hehehe.
Yep, that’s better–I like it when she does it for her own reasons and as a happy happenstance, it knocks some braincells loose in those around her
LOL! Exactly! I love knocking our hero’s brain cells around a bit.
Oh, DOGS definitely. My mom’s got a cat who likes only HER. Anyone else stops by, the claws start swinging!
Love the blog and the book is GREAT!
Hey Maureen!! I’m laughing about your mom’s cat! It reminds me of my protagonist in the bibliophile books. Poor Brooklyn thinks every cat in the world hates her. But in my February 2012 book, she meets Clyde the Cat! I can say no more.
I am an animal lover so my answer is both! Thanks for sharing your book’s blurb and your quick six answers with us… enjoyed them!
Hi Colleen! Thanks so much for coming by to say hello today!
I loved this Duke brother series.
Oh Marilyn, that’s so sweet!! Thank you for loving the Dukes! (I love them, too!
)
I love both but alas hubbies allergic to cats…so we have Gracie who truely believes she is human and refuses to use her doggie door and when she wants back in she rings the doorbell!
LOL, Cadi!! Your Gracie rings the doorbell?? That is so funny! She really does sound human! My SIL had a sweet little dog named Gracie, but to tell the truth, she wasn’t exactly smart enough to figure out the doorbell. LOL
I kept telling my kids to quit ringing the doorbell they swore it wasn’t them so I snuck around back to catch them…and there wase Gracie on her hind legs ringing away Lol
That’s so cute! What a smart dog! Years ago, I had a roommate whose cat could open the doors in the apartment with his paw. Just a little disconcerting. LOL
One of my favorite things about Kelly is she’s honest to a fault, and that she wasn’t trying at all to seduce Brandon…I LOVED It!Might we see Sally”help” Logan&Aidan in the future???;-)
I had so much fun writing Kelly’s story! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! And I’m happy to say that Sally will definitely be helping Logan and Aidan in the near future. Logan’s story comes first. It’s called AN INNOCENT IN PARADISE and it comes out in December. Aidan’s book will be out sometime next year. Thanks!
I can’t wait! <3
Hi Kate and welcome
Can I have both cats and dogs? I don’t think I could choose between them. I love my dogs, they are big and sloppy and sweet and protective. And they keep my feet warm when I write. I love my cats, too, though.
Congrats on your new release -can you share a little tidbit about the story? What sparked this for you or something fun that was going on while you wrote it? I love insider info *ggg*
My answer used to be dogs, but know I have to say that I’m thinking about getting a cat. Can’t choose one over the other. Both are amazing in their own ways
Hi Leni! I agree, it’s hard to choose between cats and dogs. I know a lot of people are firmly in one camp or the other, but I just think any animal would be a wonderful addition to my home.
Ok now that is a tough one since I have a plethora of both lol…But I think that I would have to go with cat if I were only to have one!!

Ooh Dawn, I love the idea of having lots of animals around. So much love! Thanks for popping in to say hi!
Hi Tawny! Thanks so much for inviting me to do the Quick Six with you today! Yes, of course you can have both dogs and cats! I didn’t realize you had multiples of each. You’re so lucky! I want to hear all about them.
I have such a soft spot in my heart for Brandon Duke. He made me laugh and smile while I was writing the first two books in the trilogy, so I looked forward to finally writing his story — and it was so much fun to write. He was always making me laugh, which is one of the qualities I love in a hero. Also, you might know that the boss/secretary plotline is one of my favorites, but Brandon and Kelly’s story has a few fun twists that might surprise you. I hope everyone loves it!
Hmm … some insider info. Well, I called my heroes the DUKE Brothers because I have four brothers who all call each other “Duke.” Not “Dude,” but “Duke.” I don’t know why! LOL. They’ve just always done it. Also, since the Duke brothers build hotels, each of the fabulous hotels in the books are places I’ve been to–or dreamed of going to. I have links on my website to each of the hotels that inspired me.
Oooh, what fun insider info *g* I love it.
As for my dogs and cats story…. I have two dogs, a Rottweiler named Tinkerbell (she was ‘supposed’ to be the runt but she’s a lean mean 115 now) and Sierra, a shepherd mix. We have 3 cats, Gypsy, Spike and Persephone. To make it even more fun, we have a parakeet and a tortoise, too.
Hi Kate! Simply love your books. Have to pick dogs, since I’m allergic to cats! But they are so very cute.
Hi Sue! Thanks so much for stopping by today — and I’m so happy you’re enjoying the Duke Brothers! I feel your pain about the allergies to cats. My DH is miserable whenever we visit friends with cats, so I doubt we’ll ever have one. But they are so sweet and soft! Even the ones who ignore me. LOL
I love both dogs and cats. Both have amazing personalities. Animal lover so long as it isn’t a reptile. Lol!!
Hi Nicole! You’re so right, it’s the personalities that are so special about dogs and cats.
But you know, I have cousins who raise reptiles. (Yes, I’m getting the shivers just thinking about it! LOL) But they have a good time taking the animals to schools and teaching kids about the different types of turtles and snakes and lizards and all sorts of other creepy crawlers! I’m sure they would say that their animals have personalities, and I guess it really is a great way to teach the kids, but still. Yeeugh!! LOL
Yeah(cringing!). I could buy them having personalities but still couldn’t do it. My son has a hermit crab and I squeal everytime he comes near me with it. He loves doing that. Lol!!
OMG! A crab! Okay, I would be cringing right there with you! But it’s so nice that you can provide so much amusement for your son. LOL
I am a dog person and I am also a retired high school teacher of 37years and if you had asked me what I wanted to be when I was in high school a teacher would have been my very last choice!!!!
Oh, Ellen, that is so funny and interesting! I’m sure you were a fabulous teacher, even if you don’t think you would’ve chosen it!
And now that I think about it, I never would’ve chosen “writer” for myself back then, either. I just never thought I could do it, even though I secretly wanted it so much. It took me many years to realize I could do anything I set my mind to do. Even then, it still took a few more years to get me going.
Hi Kate great answers! Your book sound fabulous! I guess I would have to say I love both dogs and cats but I don’t have either. My son wants a dog but I don’t have the time to take care of one right now and he has an alergy to cats.
Hi Quilt Lady! You’re so smart to hesitate on getting a dog. There’s so much responsibility involved with pets. We have friends who’ve been known to loan their little dog out to friends who are thinking of getting a pet, just so they’ll understand what’s involved. It’s not easy!!
Hi Kate,
Great quick 6!
I’m a dog person. Allergic to cats.
Hi chey! Thanks so much for commenting! I apologize for not responding sooner but my computer kept kicking me out. Or maybe it was Tawny who blocked me. Hmm….did she hear about my date with Johnny Depp Friday night? Hehehe…
Ahem…
I beg your pardon? You did NOT say you were poaching on my Johnny love, did you? Nah, you wouldn’t do that
ugh on the computer issues. I’m living in that world myself. I’m now counting the hours until my new computer is delivered and I can safely navigate online again without worrying about flashing blue screens.
Hehehe! Didn’t know if you would notice that little comment. LOL
I tried and tried to post late on Friday but it wasn’t happening. Sorry! And I’m very sorry about your computer woes. Seeing that blue screen of death come up is one of the worst feelings in the world, isn’t it?
Hello Kate! I’ve enjoyed reading your Quick Six answers today. The premise of your book sounds really fun. I think most of us girls love a good makeover – especially if it gets a cute guy’s attention. Now that I know the backstory behind the Duke name it makes it even more interesting. To answer your question, I too am an animal lover and if I had to choose it would probably be dogs because that’s what we always had when I was growing up. I think cats can make a good pet too though.
Hi Jill! You’re so right about makeovers. I’m always trying to figure out some new way to wear my hair, and I’m always looking for new makeup tips that will make me look like Heidi Klum.
I think anyone who got to grow up with animals around the house is so lucky! I didn’t realize it back then, but now that we don’t have a dog or cat in the house, I’m missing all that sweet, furry love!
Great interview. Like to see people’s choices in things. I have to agree with the flying things.
DOGS AND CATS… although right now I only have one dog. A rather large dog so she’s enough for me to feed. LOL
LOL Cathy! I’ll bet that big dog of yours eats plenty! Thanks for coming by to say hello.
I’m an either one person. In the past I have had cats but currently I own a rather mad Staff called (naturally enough) Maddy
Aww, Ilona! Maddy is such a cute name for a dog!!
Congrats on the new release, Kate. I’ll go with cats. They’re adorable and they practically take care of themselves.
Hi Jane! Thanks for the congrats.
Yes, one of the great things about cats is their self-sufficiency. But I must admit I do love it when they want to cuddle up to me. So soft and cute!
I just picked a winner using the random number generator. The winner of the first two books in my Duke Brothers trilogy is … {{drum roll!}} … COLLEEN!!
Congratulations, Colleen! If you’ll write me at katecarlisle99@yahoo.com and give me your snail mail address, I’ll send the books out to you ASAP!
Thanks everyone!! Thank you, Tawny! I always have the best time with your Quick Six!
Oh Boy! This is a wonderful wonderful surprise! Thank you so much for the win! E-mail sent!
