Quick Six with Jean Brashear
Please welcome USA Today bestselling author and multi-RITA nominee, Jean Brashear to the Quick Six. Jean is offering a fabulous prize today, both
a print version of the original, THE BODYGUARD’S BRIDE and as she’s recently rewritten it, the fabulous new version, THE CHOICE, in digital! What a great prize, right?! To have a chance to win it for yourself, respond in the comments section to Jean’s question!
Plotter or Pantzer?
Total pantzer who wishes about 300 times per book that she was a plotter.;) But the adventure clearly calls to me way more loudly than the efficiency.Alpha, beta or gamma?
Alpha all the way, bay-bee! And if you can make him dark and mysterious and sexy and tormented to boot…even better! Faves? Suz Brockmann Troubleshooters, especially Sam and Max and Decker, Karen Marie Moning’s Jericho Barrons, Linda Howard’s Chance Mackenzie, Tami Hoag’s Jack Boudreaux, Deborah Smith’s Roan Sullivan…yum, yum, yum!Football or basketball?
Football! (Though those basketball shoulders and arms…gawd! Be still my heart!)Clean or cluttered?
Clean, everywhere but my desk which, while I’m writing a book (which is nearly always) looks like a bomb went off on top of it. Okay, in my whole office.High heels or flats?
Stilettos (which is what got me sentenced to flats for a full year–ugly flats, too!)
Please welcome Jean Brashear to the Quick SixDaytime or nighttime?
Daytime, sadly. In my next life, I’m going to be a night owl, I swear. Writing while everyone’s asleep, midnight with the quill pen by candlelight up in the lonely garret (in Paris, of course)…seems soooo romantic!Though to a whole bunch of the questions, I’ll freely admit, I wanted to say “Can’t I have both?”
My own Quick Seventh? Jack or Sawyer?
USAToday and Kindle bestselling author of over 30 novels in romance and women’s fiction, a three-time RITA finalist and RT BOOKReviews Career Achievement Award winner, Jean Brashear knows a lot about taking crazy chances. A lifelong avid reader, at the age of forty-five with no experience and no training, she decided to see if she could write a book. It was a wild leap that turned her whole life upside down, but she would tell you that though she’s never been more terrified, she’s never felt more exhilarated or more alive. She’s an ardent proponent of not putting off your dreams until that elusive ‘someday’—take that leap now.

Okay I hate to admit it, but I have no clue who Jack or Sawyer are… Are they characters on a TV show?
Enjoyed you Quick Six answers… Have a few of your books on my shelves, but not THE BODYGUARD’S BRIDE… going to visit your site and see what else I have missed out on! Thanks for sharing!
Colleen, clearly you are not a LOSTie! (I wasn’t either until about 3 seasons in, when I got tired of hearing everyone talk about it…then lived to regret it!) I’m thrilled that you have some of my books–thanks!
Hi Jean, and welcome to the Quick Six. I’m fascinated that you rewrote an earlier book and are re-releasing it. What inspired you to do this? And what was it like, revisiting your earlier writing?
Tawny, mega-apologies! I’m normally very organized, but we were having tile installed in our house and had to pack up as though we were moving…and my calendar was part of what was buried until yesterday! SO sorry I’m late to the party!
As for the revisiting, Tawny…it was both fun and eerie. The story held up really well, I was glad to see, but my writing really has stepped up since then! You want to grow as a writer, but looking back, I can see how I’ve learned that less is more…only one reason I couldn’t just release it as is.
The main reason, though, is the ending…which I was required to change (water down, really.) Always, always bothered me because she was a kickass heroine who would never, ever have sat around waiting for the big, strong hero to take care of things–but when this book came out, kickass heroines were not common. So I was thrilled to give her (and them) the ending they deserved!
Great quick six! Sawyer.
Thanks, Chey–Tawny’s Quick Six is SUCH a fun idea! (But I’d have a hard time picking either Jack or Sawyer…I want both!!) Jack is noble and trustworthy and you know he’d never let you down…but Sawyer is so beautifully tormented, not to mention seriously HOT!
Love your answers but I think I a totally different then you because I am a night owl all the way. I think it was a wonderful idea to rewrite and earlier book and then re-releasing it. Sounds interesting.
Thanks so much, Quilt Lady! Revising it was quite the experience…and getting rid of that title I hated so much ROCKED! (I mean…SHE’S the bodyguard! Oy!)
great quick Six . Glad you explained who Jack and Sawyer were . I missed the whole lost phase though I might have to go catch up on it . Ur a new to me author but Im going to check out your page and see how I can resolve that
Thank you, Jennifer! Let me know if I can help you with that.
If you like hot, you might want to check out SURRENDER. My fingers got burned, typing.
As for LOST, unless you’re just a huge fan of having your mind messed with, there are better uses for your time, I promise. Every single week, it was millions of people going “Huh?” JJ Abrams is either a genius or the meanest man on the planet…or maybe both.
I’m not a Lost fan either. Sorry! I tried to get into it the first season but had already missed a couple of episodes & was totally…. lost.
The Quick Six was fun. You and I have a couple of the same Alpha favs.
Really, Beth? Which ones?
As for LOST, my son and I would pore over each episode, mining it for meaning and clues, while my mother would just accept what had happened and not stress over it, just sort of going “Well, how about that?” By the last season, he and I had decided she was the only smart one among us!
Loved your blog, Jean! Might want to add Diego and Jesse, at least, to your dark, sexy men. Think I have a natural affinity to Pansters…
Well, thank you! Diego from THE HEALER is very special to me, and his brother Jesse also really got to me. Appreciate !
Uh…appreciate IT!! LOL…
